Urad Dal Khichdi

Split Black Lentil (chilka urad dal) is the key ingredient of this khichdi recipe.

Ingredient

Rinse and soak urad dal in water for 1 hour.

Step 1

Heat ghee in a pressure cooker. Add cumin seeds, red chilies, whole spices, asafoetida, and ginger. Saute for 20 sec.

Step 2

Add chopped onion. Fry for 1 minute or till it turns light brown. 

Step 3

Add lentils (dal), red chili powder, turmeric, and saute precisely for 1 minute.

Step 4

Next, add rice, mix with other ingredients in the pressure cooker. Add water, salt, and garam masala.

Step 5

Pressure Cook khichdi for 2 whistles over low to medium heat.

Step 6

Enjoy Urad Dal Khichdi with ghee and dahi
